Retreat to rural Transylvania

Updated: Jan 18

Copșa Mare 142 is a private house for creative guests.

Copșa Mare is a tiny farming village in southern Transylvania set in the middle of tens of thousands of hectares of oak and beech forest, interspersed with wood pastures exceptionally rich in flora & fauna. The winters are dry, sunny and cold. There is wonderful walking and rough cross-country skiing. Brown bears are common.

The accommodation is ideal for two. Easy to keep warm, with gas central heating throughout, there is a large, light bedroom, with high quality mattresses, feather pillows & duvets, and cotton bed linen; a bathroom with a walk-in shower and under floor & wall heating; two separate lavatories; and a study equipped with a desk, high speed internet and five bar mobile phone coverage. There is a fridge, an electric kettle and gas hob, crockery and cutlery for two, suitable for breakfast and light meals.

Artists may use our studio, which is warm, full of northern light and equipped with desks, daylight lamps and a large standing desk with ergonomic standing stools ideal for spreading out very large drawings and if you make clothes, for pattern cutting as well.

The 2022 price is EUR 1240 for a couple for 14 nights (EUR 840 for single use). The price includes hot water & heating, one mid-stay house clean & change of sheets & towels, and the finest ingredients for breakfast including freshly ground coffee, excellent black teas, our own bread from spelt and rye flour we grind ourselves, buffalo milk, homemade butter and jams, village eggs and our own cured bacon. The price does not include lunch and supper, which can be taken either with your hosts, Rachel and James de Candole, who live two minutes walk away in the old townhall, or with our neighbour, Simona, at Copșa Mare 122.

The offer assumes a stay of a minimum of two weeks between January and mid-April 2022. For each additional 7 nights, the price would be EUR 490.

POD art studio, equipped with heat, northern light, desks, daylight lamps, even a large standing desk and ergonomic standing stools for artists, tailors and architects!
