This is Costica, the village cowherd. His neighbours pay him to stay all day with their grazing cattle on the rich, hilly grasslands that surround Copşa Mare. He used to look after 200 head of cattle 25 years ago. The decline in the number of cattle in the commune has been reversed in the last 2 years thanks to EU subsidies. And so Costica has plenty of work despite the introduction of electric fencing.
In the coming months, we shall introduce you to more inhabitants of the village and their changing way of life.

Thank you Jochen for this portrait of Costica
